A Central Elgin man is charged with criminal negligence after a hydro support pole fell onto the road and was struck by a vehicle driven by a 72-year-old St. Thomas woman.

Police say the woman remains in critical condition since the collision on July 24. The other driver suffered minor injuries.

According to police, a vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed when it went into the ditch and hit a hydro pole, just south of St. Thomas. The pole then fell onto the road where it was struck by a second vehicle driven by a 72-year-old woman.
