Grey County Welcomes The TORONTO 2015 Pan Am Torch

The TORONTO 2015 Pan Am Torch arrives in Grey County today.

The torch will travel through CFB Borden, Stayner, Colllingwood and Meaford before ending the day in Owen Sound.

Owen Sound is hosting a special community celebration this evening at the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre South Parking Lot.

The event takes place from 5pm to 8pm, including entertainment, displays and activities for all ages.

The highlight of the night is at 7pm when Owen Sound skier Larisa Yurkiw lights the cauldron.

The torch will be carried by 3,000 participants during it's 41 day journey through 130 Ontario Communities..

The Pan Am Games Cauldron in Toronto will be lit on July 10 to mark the official opening of the 2015 games.

The relay began earlier this week when the flame arrived from Mexico.

“We’re truly honoured that Pan Am Torch Relay will be making a special stop in Owen Sound,” says Mayor Ian Boddy. “Our community celebration will be a great opportunity to highlight our sporting legacy, and is also a chance to showcase the diverse cultures of our community.”
