Despite its festivals and concerts, London always becomes a lot quieter when the students leave for the summer.
College and university students are in their last weeks of school and will soon be saying their goodbyes to the city. But Mayor Matt Brown wants to find ways to keep them in London for the summer and after they graduate.
He says students head home to return to hometown jobs but he wants to see those young adults seeking employment in London.
"There is no question that we can do better," says Mayor Brown. "We need to find a better way to connect students with jobs here throughout the summer and especially when the student graduates."
According to Brown, jobs are getting harder to find but there are resources for students to use.
"Many group across the city hire summer employees," says Mayor Brown. "Both Fanshawe and Western do a good job through their job fair programs to advertise those programs and get students connected to them."
The Mayor is encouraging students to work on networking strategies.
"Connect with student success centres and find out what kind of opportunities might be available."
Keeping students in the city during the summer months and after graduation was one of Brown's election campaign promises.
Most Western and Fanshawe students will start their vacation when exams end on April 30.
