A search was launched Thursday evening after Deborah Bujtas and 5-year-old Akadia Damman-Bujtas didn't return home from a March Break trip to Niagara Falls. They had been expected home around 1pm Thursday.
Police had asked for the public's help in finding the pair, citing concerns about the grandmother's health.
Just before noon on Friday, police announced that they had been found and were safe.
Alan Smith will begin his new role with the municipality on July 20.
