London Police are reviewing how officers handled a domestic violence report from a woman who was arrested for impaired driving and accused of leaving her baby in an Old South driveway.
A neighbour discovered the baby in an Emery St. driveway around 5:40am on March 10.
Police say the eight-week-old's mother was arrested for impaired driving just before 2am. When she was arrested, she told officers she had been assaulted and asked them to check on her baby, whom she believed was in the back seat.
When police searched the Emery St. home following the discovery of the child, the baby's father was found sleeping inside the home. He was under conditions not to be at that address and not to be consuming alcohol.
Craig Lush, 31, was initially charged with breaching his probation conditions. However, on Saturday police issued a warrant for his arrest on charges of assualt and property damage.
A news release issued by police on Monday afternoon says the investigation into the domestic assault allegation was "not completed expeditiously and was not consistent with LPS (London Police Service) policy and procedures."
The release says an internal review of how the domestic assault investigation was handled is continuing.
Monday's release says the police handling of the impaired driving matter and the child abandonment investigation was appropriate.
