Police Preparing For St. Patrick's Day

Areas around Western, Fanshawe, and downtown London will become seas of green on Tuesday as St. Patrick's Day revellers hit the streets.

London police are getting ready for a busy day and night.

Police say there will they will have a bigger presence in neighbourhoods around both schools, as well as in the core. They hope the increased visibility of officers will prevent things from getting out of control, as in the infamous Fleming Drive riot of 2012.

According to police, student councils at both Western and Fanshawe are supporting the initiative and are recommending that students keep their parties off the street, not illegally sell alcohol, and understand that noise on a weeknight affects neighbours.

On St. Patrick's Day last year, police issued 74 provincial offence notices. Most were for having open alcohol in a public place, being intoxicated in public, and public urination.
