Women's Day Breakfast Surpasses Fundraising Goal

The London Abused Women's Centre's annual International Women's Day Breakfast has surpassed its $60,000 fundraising goal.

The 15th annual event drew a crowd of over 500 and brought in $67,000 for the centre.

"There is never a wait. All of the funding that was raised will be put right back into the delivery of front-line service to ensure that all women can access service and receive safety plans so we're available for long term counseling for them," says Executive Director of the London Abused Women's Centre Megan Walker. "50 percent of girls and women over the age of 16 will be sexually assaulted in their lives, we're starting to see an increase in the number of trafficked and prostituted women as they try to be safe in their lives."

In 2014, the centre served more than 3,300 women and took over 5,000 phone calls.
