Protecting Yourself From Crime

With cases of fraud and identity theft on the rise, police forces across the province are asking you to think of ways you can protect yourself.

Today is being designated as "Protect Your Property Day" by the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police. It is part of a the province-wide crime prevention campaign.

The goal is to educate you on how to protect yourself from fraud or theft, whether it be online, break and enters or elder abuse.

A new crime prevention booklet is available and details helpful crime prevention tips.

Break and enters decreased by 13% across Canada in 2013, but cases of fraud and identity theft are continue to increase, with a 6% spike in the same year.

Police remind you to never give out personal information to an unknown person, whether it be over the phone, in person or online.
