Woodstock fire officials say seven dogs are dead following a townhouse fire on Springbank Dr. Fire crews were called to 374 Springbank Ave. in Woodstock around 9:30 this morning for a kitchen fire. A working smoke alarm alerted the homeowner, who had fallen asleep. He and one dog made it out safely before the entire unit became engulfed in flames. There were a total of eight pets in the one unit. Investigators remain on scene, but it is believed a pot left on the stove started the fire. The two families living in the neighbouring town homes have been displaced due to smoke and water damage. The fire did not spread between the units. Fire officials estimate the total loss to be roughly $400,000.
