Barn Fire Near Lambeth

Twenty-six firefighters battled a smokey blaze in a two-story barn near Lambeth.

Rick Jefferson, Public Information Coordinator for the London Fire Department tells Blackburn News heavy, thick, grey smoke could be seen from a kilometre away.

Investigators say the barn, on Westdel Bourne southeast of Longwoods Rd, went up in flames just before 1pm. There were no animals inside. It was used to store farm equipment and vehicles, which were completely destroyed. Fire crews were able to prevent the flames from reaching a house and shed on the property.

Jefferson says the walls of the barn caved in, making it more difficult to look for a cause of the fire.  No one was hurt. Damage is estimated at $90,000.
