OPP hope that the sixteenth anniversary of an unsolved double-murder north of St. Thomas will bring forward information that can help them close the case.
On February 2, 1999, the bodies of dairy farmer Roger Smith and his common-law wife, Wendy Haveron, were found in the burned remains of their Wellington Rd. home. Police determined the couple died as the result of blunt force trauma and that the fire was deliberately set to cover up the murders.
A $50,000 reward for the arrest and conviction of those responsible was issued in 2009 and is still available.
Sgt. Peter Leon tells Blackburn News, "Someone out there has information that can solve this case. We ask them to come forward and bring some closure for the families of the victims." Anyone with information can call OPP or Crime Stoppers.
