Creating Safe And Inclusive Schools

Grade 7 students and teachers from across the Thames Valley District School Board are working together to make schools more inclusive and welcoming places.

A total of 200 Grade 7 students and 100 teachers will take part in this year's SAVE (Students Against Violence Everywhere) Conference on Wednesday and Thursday.

The goal is to get students to identify what they need from other students and staff to feel comfortable in the classroom.

"We encourage our students to think about  what sort of positive action they want to see in their schools," says Learning Coordinator Toni Wilson. "We want them to come up with a campaign with their schools...It's really an opportunity for empowerment, sharing, getting information and motivating kids to action."

After a musical performance and play, students will work with teachers to create an action plan for their schools.
