A Chatham-Kent (CK) kickboxer is starting his amateur career on the right foot.
Zechariah Hodgins, a member of the Armstrong Academy of Martial Arts, won his first fight this past weekend in Windsor during the fourth King Striking Series.
He beat Aiden Boggs, who was also in his first career fight, by unanimous decision.
Hodgins told CK News Today that he and Boggs gave it their all.
"He caught me off guard in the beginning. He got me with a good shot. I worked my range, worked my front kicks, landed a few good head kicks, and (was able to go) the distance," he said.
Hodgins has been kickboxing since he was a young teenager. He took multiple years off for personal reasons, but wanted to get back into the sport.
"I had a few demonstrations when I was a kid... so it's been quite a while," Hodgins joked.
He wasn't the only member of the Armstrong Academy of Martial Arts to make their debut in Windsor. Hunter Regan and Kyle Hachey both lost their first fights.
Tyler "The Sledge Hammer" Hart, who made his debut at the King Striking Series in 2024, won by technical knockout (TKO) to improve his record to 3-1.
Cameron Arnew also took part in an exhibition match on the preliminary card.
