The Chatham Maroons have signed two new players from Finland.
Joining the Greater Ontario Hockey League Club (GOJHL) are goaltender Viljami Kukkola and defenseman Jacob Ronnqvist.
The duo was invited to some pre-season skates, and Maroons Head Coach and General Manager Brennan Feasey told CK News Today they made a great first impression.
When it comes to Kukkola, Feasey praised his mechanical skating.
“We've seen him and really liked what he looked like and brought to the table,” he said.
As for Ronnqvist, Feasey sees him fitting in perfectly on the blueline.
“He's going to be a nice little piece for us on the back end. He's bringing a lot of skill and a lot of patience with the puck from what I've seen so far,” Feasey added.
The Maroons have also re-signed Carter Kucher.
Feasey said the team's reputation is sky high after winning the Sutherland Cup.
“It didn't take too much convincing, actually, to bring over these high-level players, which I think speaks volumes to the organization as a whole,” he continued.
The Maroons' next preseason game will be on Sunday at home against the LaSalle Vipers. Puck drop is at 7 p.m., following the OHL preseason game between the Windsor Spitfires and Saginaw Spirit.
