The first-ever season of the Chatham-Kent Barnstormers has come to an abrupt end.
On Sunday, the team lost its third consecutive game to the Guelph Royals in the best-of-five series. The game was a blowout, with Guelph blanking CK 14-0.
Guelph's Garrett Takamatsu had a grand slam to top off the scoring blitz on Sunday.
Royals pitcher Kyle Thomas made it tough for the Barnstormers to string anything together, striking out seven batters over six innings. He didn't give up a walk over that stretch, either.
Seth Strong was strong at the plate for Chatham-Kent, going 3-for-4, though he wasn't able to get any runs batted in.
CK's team entered the playoffs on a high, with a winning record in the second half of the season. They placed fifth out of nine teams in the regular season and even won the season series against the Royals 3-2.
But it seems high hopes and expectations couldn't overcome Guelph's experience. The Barnstormers lost the first game of the quarterfinals 14-2, the second game was much closer with a 7-5 loss at Fergie Jenkins Field in Chatham.
