The Windsor Spitfires stumbled against the conference's worst team, putting their playoff situation more in jeopardy.
The Flint Firebirds scored four straight goals to beat the Spitfires 4-1 Saturday night at the Dort Federal Events Center. It was the seventh straight defeat for Windsor, who now find themselves tied with the Erie Otters for the eighth and final playoff spot, with 56 points apiece. Windsor is 0-5-2 during that stretch, with three regular-season games left to play.
Will Cuylle scored the only goal in the first period, his 26th of the season for a 1-0 Windsor lead. Shots on goal in the opening frame were 14-9 in favour of the Spits.
After that, it was all Flint. Emmet Pierce knotted up the game for Flint in the second period, with the tying goal coming on the power play at 12:29. Firebird goals then came from Cody Morgan, Hunter Holmes and Ethan Keppen.
Kari Piiroinen stopped 33 shots in goal for the Spitfires. Luke Cavallin had 36 shots out of 37 attempts for Flint.
Windsor now faces a quick turnaround and begins the final week of the regular season at Sault Ste. Marie Sunday afternoon.
