Jr. hockey wrap-up - September 29, 2018

Brendan Ritchie scored twice as the Dresden Kings beat the Flags 3-1 in Mooretown Saturday night.

The Kings have a comfortable lead atop the PJHL Stobbs Division, with 12 points. Mooretown is in sixth place with five points.

The only scoring in the first period came from Brock Perry, who scored on the power play to put the Flags up 1-0 after one.

Dresden tied the game, then took the lead in the second period. Ritchie's power play goal at 3:55 was the equalizer, then Brantley Kuipers gave the Kings the lead later in the frame.

Ritchie scored again late in the third period to give Dresden the insurance they needed.

Brett Brochu stopped 38 out of 39 shots in net for the Kings. Jake Wilkins had 29 saves for Mooretown.

The Kings travel to Wheatley Wednesday night, while Mooretown has a rematch at Dresden on Friday.

Cal Davis scored a hat trick as the London Nationals remain unbeaten, defeating the struggling Rockets 7-2 in Strathroy.

London is first atop the GOJHL Western Conference leaderboard with 12 points and a 6-0 record. The Rockets are still seeking their first victory.

The Rockets scored first, on a Matthew Stevens goal at 3:27 in the opening stanza. The Nationals then scored three straight to take a 3-1 lead into the locker room. Max Vinogradov, Kyle Dawson and Davis were the goal scorers in order.

Davis picked up where he left off in the second period, with another goal to put London up 4-1. Emmet Pierce got that goal back for Strathroy with just a minute left in the frame. The Nationals still led 4-2.

It was all London in the third frame. Davis completed his hat trick at 2:30, and Vinogradov scored his second goal of the game at 5:03. Ryan McAllister added another goal for good measure late in regulation.

Zachary Springer stopped 36 shots in net for the Nationals. Vince Michelizzi had 34 saves for Strathroy.

London hosts Komoka Wednesday night, and Strathroy hosts those same Kings Sunday.

Joel Mazzilli's hat trick contributed to the Komoka Kings' 7-2 win over the St. Marys Lincolns at home.

Komoka is in a three-way tie for fourth place in the Western Conference with six points. St. Marys is tied for seventh place with four points.

The Kings started the scoring at 5:04 in the first period when Mazzilli put the puck in the net. The Lincolns evened things up almost five minutes later on a Josh Martin goal. Komoka then scored back-to-back with goals from Chase Strychalk and a short-handed tally from Alex Cunningham, putting their team up 3-1 at the first intermission.

Mazzilli scored again at 3:59 in the second period to extend the Kings' lead to 4-1, and Dario Beljo added a power play goal for Komoka to extend the lead further. Jake Weston scored with the extra-man advantage at 36 seconds left in the frame, but the Lincolns still trailed 5-2.

Komoka scored two more goals late in the third. Cunningham scored his second, then Mazzilli completed the hat trick.

Owen Say had 22 saves for the Kings in goal. Justin Richer stopped 24 shots in net for the Lincolns.

St. Marys next travels to Sarnia on Thursday night.
