Jr. Hockey Wrap-Up - October 29, 2017

Quinn Fazekas scored twice as the Essex 73s beat the Blades 6-1 in Blenheim Sunday night.

Essex moves into a second-place tie with the Mooretown Flags in the PJHL Stobbs Division with 20 points.

The 73s scored their first two goals in the first period, first from Jack Sanko, then from Fazekas.

Fazekas got his second goal of the game at 2:39 in the second period to put Essex up 3-0. Two more goals in the middle frame extended the 73s' lead to five. Michael Ruttinger and Wyatt O'Neil were the goal scorers.

The 73s added a sixth consecutive goal in the third period when Michael Vieira found the net while short-handed. Blenheim avoided the shutout when Michael Vanek scored.

Jax D'Hondt took the win between the pipes for the 73s by stopping all but one of Blenheim's 25 shots. Eric Stewardson had 29 saves for the Blades.

The 73s host Dresden in a Halloween night game Tuesday. Blenheim travels to Petrolia Thursday.

The Wheatley Omstead Sharks scored three goals in the third to beat the Amherstburg Integrity Admirals 4-3 at the Libro Centre.

The Addys are in a tie for fifth place with Blenheim for 15 points each. The Sharks are in seventh place with 13 points.

Dylan Muzzatti got the Admirals on the board first at 7:18 in the first period. Carter Mastronardi tied the game up for the Sharks two and a half minutes later with a goal of his own.

There was no scoring in the second period. The Addys did have one power play opportunity after Jake Pickersgill was sent to the box for hooking. Wheatley's Justin Pinsonneault and Amherstburg's David Cooke both went at once for unsportsmanlike conduct.

Pickersgill put Wheatley ahead at 4:38 in the third period. Antonio Ciampa added insurance for the Sharks to make the score 3-1.  Amherstburg came back within one at 14:47 in the third with a Ryan Alexander goal but the Sharks put one ahead once more with a Ryan Zsebok power play tally. Admirals goalie Ben Larder was pulled for the extra attacker and Caleb Paquette was able to score on a six-on-four advantage, but that would be all.

Larder had 23 saves for Amherstburg in the loss. Daniel Tonietto took the win for Wheatley by stopping 32 shots.

The Sharks host Petrolia Monday night. Amherstburg travels to Lakeshore Friday.
