Although there's no timetable for his return to the Windsor Spitfires' line-up, Hayden McCool is going to be okay.
The forward was tripped about two minutes into the third period in Thursday's 4-0 win over Saginaw at the WFCU Centre, and fell awkwardly into the boards.
Worried about damage to his neck, first responders and Spitfires medical staff cut off McCool's jersey and shoulder pads while he laid on the ice, in order to get a brace on and transport him off the playing surface.
He was quickly taken to a local hospital where x-rays on his neck were negative.
Spitfires spokesperson Dave Ducharme says McCool suffered "soft tissue damage," or essentially a bad neck strain.
This injury is just one more on a long list for the Windsor club right now.
Defenceman Logan Stanley is gone until at least the Memorial Cup tournament after knee surgery; Centre Logan Brown remains week-to-week with a right hand injury; Left Winger Jeremiah Addison could return next weekend, but is considered week-to-week with a bruised lung; and Defenceman Daniel Robertson, recently acquired in a trade with Oshawa, is week-to-week with a sprained knee.
