A slow night in the NHL with only two games taking place.

The Edmonton Oilers regained a share of the lead in the Pacific Division by beating Arizona, 3-2. That's Edmonton's first win against the Coyotes since January 2011.

Elsewhere -- Chatham-Kent's Travis Konecny and the Philadelphia Flyers snapped a two-game losing skid with a 3-2 shootout victory over the Washington Capitals.

In other hockey news -- the Detroit Red Wings have put goalie Jimmy Howard on seven-day injured reserve after he hurt his right leg in the second period of Tuesday's loss in Tampa Bay.

In the NBA -- the Detroit Pistons struggled to score in a 98-86 loss to Memphis. Detroit has now dropped four straight.

Connor Ingram stopped all 20 shots he faced as Canada blanked the Czech Republic 5-0 in a pre-tournament game ahead of the World Junior Hockey Championship. The tournament opens on Boxing Day.
