Sports Briefs - November 8, 2016

Another loss for the Vancouver Canucks.

The New York Islanders got by Vancouver 4-2, handing the Canucks their ninth straight loss.

In other NHL action -- Roberto Luongo made 34 saves as the Panthers beat Tampa Bay 3-1 -- and the Boston Bruins shutout the Buffalo Sabres 4-0.

In Jr. C hockey -- the Lakeshore Canadiens scored five goals in the second period to beat the Wheatley Sharks 6-5.

In the NFL -- the Buffalo Bills have dropped three straight.

They fell falling 31-25 to the Seattle Seahawks on Monday Night Football. Bills quarterback Tyrod Taylor threw for 289 yards, one TD and one interception in the loss.

In the NBA -- the Detroit Pistons fell to 0-3 on the road this season with a 114-82 loss to the Clippers in LA. Meantime, Warriors star guard Steph Curry set a new NBA record by hitting 13 three-pointers as Golden State beat New Orleans 116-110.

In MLB news -- Tigers pitcher Justin Verlander is in the running for the AL Cy Young Award. He's up against Cleveland's Corey Kluber and Boston's Rick Porcello.

Meantime, Detroit's Michael Fulmer is up for AL Rookie of the Year.

In other baseball news, the Toronto Blue Jays are extending qualifying offers to sluggers Jose Bautista and Edwin Encarnacion.

Players have a week to decide whether they want to accept the offers.
