The Chatham Maroons have extend their winning streak to nine games, after beating the Leamington Flyers 5-4 in overtime on Thursday.
A back and forth first period saw Nolan VandenBoorn score twice for Chatham, while Brett Vorshuk scored two goals of his own for Leamington. Mitchell Crevatin added a goal late in the first to give the Flyers a 3-2 lead going into the second.
The Maroons were able to take a one point advantage in the second thanks to two goals from Kevin Gursoy and Austin Thompson. However, Leamington's Liam Hogan scored with 15 seconds left in the final frame to force OT.
VandenBoorn was quick to score 2:13 into overtime to complete a hat trick, and win it for Chatham.
He says great to earn a victory over a team like the Flyers.
"It's big for us... especially coming off of last year's playoffs," says VandenBoorn. "Big rivalry always with them and always tough games."
The Maroons return home on Sunday to take on the LaSalle Vipers at 7pm. And then on October 27, the Flyers are on home ice to face off against the St. Marys Lincolns at 7:10pm.
