The Windsor Spitfires have traded goaltender Brendan Johnston to the Flint Firebirds.
In exchange for Johnston, the Spitfires will receive Flint's sixth round pick in the 2017 OHL Priority Selection.
"This is a good trade for both sides," says Spitfires General Manager Warren Rychell in a media release. "We wish Brendan all the best in Flint, where he'll get a chance to play moving forward."
The 18-year old Port Lambton native who currently plays for the Chatham Maroons, cleared Ontario Hockey League waivers back in October when he was picked as the odd man out with four goalies on the Spitfires' roster.
Johnston played his final game with the Chatham Maroons Wednesday night, just a couple hours after the trade was announced.
"I talked to Flint and they were fine with it, obviously [they said] don't get hurt," he says. "But I really wanted to play the last game with the guys. It's a great group of guys, so I was happy I got in there."
Johnston played 37 games with the Spitfires during the 2014-15 season, posting a 4.72 goals against average and an .870 save percentage.
