Losing Chiefs Tough On Tecumseh

Tecumseh Mayor Gary McNamara is disappointed to see the chance at having a junior "C" hockey team slip away, but feels the town is bound to get a team eventually.

"Not as a council, but as a municipality, hockey fans and so forth, we're disappointed," says McNamara.

However, he feels the chance to capitalize on natural rivalries in the county should be too much for the league to pass on.

"Just on travel time with Belle River, Essex, Amherstburg and Tecumseh, it would be just an absolute jam," says McNamara. "I feel confident, maybe not this year, but in the near future we will have a franchise here."

The teams in the Great Lakes Junior C Hockey League denied the Tecumseh Chiefs bid to join the league and the Ontario Hockey Federation upheld that decision on Monday.
