CK man fined for illegal deer hunting

A Thamesville man has been fined for unlawfully hunting deer.

The Ministry of Natural Resources reported that the man was fined $5,000 after pleading guilty in Chatham court.

The court heard the man was hunting deer without a licence, possessed a void licence, made a false statement in a document, and broke other deer related laws related to a November 2025 controlled deer hunt.

The Ministry said a conservation officer conducted a deer hunting compliance check of the man in the Municipality of Chatham-Kent and determined that he did not possess a valid deer licence.

According to Ministry officials, his tag had already been used and he was attempting to hunt using another individual's tag who was not actively hunting.

The Ministry added that the man did not possess the required validation to participate in the controlled deer hunt as he falsely applied for a farmer/landowner controlled hunt validation through another individual's licensing account.

The deer was seized, according to the Ministry.
