Former nurse matching donations for CK hospice, $25K raised so far

Around $25,0000 has been raised in a day for the Chatham-Kent Hospice Foundation, thanks to one of its current residents.

Willi Kirenko, a former registered nurse and nurse practitioner with over 45 years of experience, is currently spending her final days at the hospice after being diagnosed with cancer.

Due to the care she's received, she and her husband, Nestor, have decided to match all donations to the hospice, up to $100,000.

"I now understand hospice in a way I never could before, as a resident. I know firsthand what this care provides: comfort when things are difficult, compassion when words aren’t enough, and the reassurance that no one has to face the end of life alone," said Kirenko.

All donations will help the hospice continue providing care for residents. Despite receiving government funding, the centre still needs to raise money to cover around 55 per cent of its annual expenses.

People can donate to Willi's cause by visiting the Chatham-Kent Hospice Foundation's website.
