Sting sign Wallaceburg native after strong start

A rookie Sarnia Sting defenceman is being rewarded for his strong play so far this Ontario Hockey League season.

The club has signed Wallaceburg native Dracen Campbell to a standard player agreement.

The 19-year-old has five assists in six games this year.

He played AAA in Lambton and with the Mooretown Flags of the PJHL.

Campbell spent the last year with the Prince George Spruce Kings of the BCHL, where he recorded 17 points in 52 games.

“Signing here means so much to me," said Campbell. "Growing up and watching Sting games, it’s a dream come true. It’s been a long journey, and I’ve been trying to grind my way out. Now that I’m here, it feels great."

Sting General Manager Dylan Seca said Campbell is very reliable, and a smooth skater.

"He’s a calm decision maker who can defend. He shows up and gives everything he has every time. He’s just a great teammate to have," said Seca. "When you add up all of his great player qualities and the fact that he’s a local product who always came to Sting games as a kid and dreamed to be a member of the Sarnia Sting, it’s a great full circle story that we are excited to be a part of."

Campbell and the Sting will be on the ice Friday as they welcome the Oshawa Generals to Progressive Auto Sales Arena.

You can hear every Sting game on Big Country 103.9.
