Police are searching for a Chatham native who escaped from a correctional facility in Kingston.
Corrections Canada and Kingston police reported on Thursday that Mason Jenkins, 49, formerly of Chatham, was missing during a head count at Collins Bay Institution in Kingston on Thursday morning.
Jenkins is serving a life sentence for murdering his sister in Chatham in 1998.
Jenkins is described as a White man, 5' 9" tall, approximately 255 lbs with a fair complexion, brown eyes and brown hair, and currently has a shaved head. He was last seen wearing a light green jacket, blue jeans, and rubber boots.

Kingston police warn the public to not approach Jenkins and contact 9-1-1 immediately.
Jenkins was convicted of killing his 18-year-old sister, Jennifer Jenkins. She was shot to death in the Jenkins family home.
CK police said they're monitoring the search for Jenkins and ask residents to remain vigilant.
"Given Mason Jenkins' connections to the Chatham-Kent area, the Chatham-Kent Police Service has taken appropriate precautionary measures and is working closely with partner agencies in support of the investigation," said CK police. "The safety of our residents remains our top priority, and we are committed to taking all reasonable steps to support public safety while assisting our policing partners in their efforts to locate and apprehend the individual."
