A three-year commitment to the future of healthcare in Wallaceburg has officially been fulfilled.
Members of the Sydenham District Hospital Auxiliary presented Chatham-Kent Health Alliance Foundation (CKHAF) with a $30,000 donation on September 18.
This followed $35,000 donations made in 2024 and 2025, bringing the Auxiliary's donation total to $100,000.
"This is such an important milestone, and one that speaks volumes about the dedication of the Sydenham District Hospital Auxiliary," said Christine Mitchell, CKHAF President and CEO. "For three years, these incredible volunteers have worked toward a promise they made to their hospital and their community."
The money was put toward the Wallaceburg Redevelopment Campaign, which aims to modernize key areas of the hospital. This includes the Emergency Department and Diagnostic Imaging services. The project also aims to add to the hospital's number of beds, including another palliative care bed.
"The redevelopment is about building on the care that is already being delivered in Wallaceburg and creating an environment that will support patients, families and healthcare teams well into the future," added Mitchell. "The Auxiliary has been part of this hospital’s story for generations, and it is incredibly meaningful to see them continue to lead the way as we look toward what comes next."
The Sydenham District Hospital Auxiliary was established in 1957 and has spent decades supporting patient care at the Wallaceburg Site through volunteer service and fundraising initiatives.
Lynne Labadie, the Auxiliary's President, shared that the group's members are incredibly proud to have raised the money and completed their pledge. She also thanked everyone who helped support them, saying that they were able to reach the milestone because of the community's effort.
"This hospital means so much to the people in our community, and our volunteers have worked very hard over the past three years to help support its future," Labadie said.
