UPDATE: Severe weather, possible tornado, in Chatham-Kent

Portions of Chatham-Kent dealt with several batches of severe weather on Thursday.

Environment Canada issued a severe thunderstorm watch for the entire region, but more than one line of storms affected Chatham-Kent.

Shortly after 7 p.m., the weather agency reported a storm cell that was capable of producing a tornado, and a tornado warning was issued.

A suspected tornado was found over Moraviantown at that time and moving east at 40 kilometres per hour.

Areas in the path included Thamesville, Ridgetown, Highgate, and Rodney.

"Take cover immediately in a basement, interior room, or a sturdy shelter when threatening weather approaches," read the warning from Environment Canada. "If no shelter is available, lie in a low spot and protect your head from flying debris."

The tornado warning expired shortly before 8 p.m., but severe weather continued to push through and effect Elgin County.

More to come.
