Court battle over proposed Dresden landfill set for September

A court hearing over the Dresden landfill between the Municipality of Chatham-Kent (CK) and York1 Environmental Waste Solutions has been scheduled for September.

The September 21 hearing was scheduled in Chatham court on Tuesday.

The municipality was served with a court challenge by York1 in November, with the waste company arguing that the property for a proposed landfill in Dresden doesn't require any land-use planning approvals from CK's council. Specifically, York1 believes it should be exempt since the property at 29831 Irish School Road was previously used as a dump.

The municipality is arguing that York1 does require municipal land-use planning approvals, including zoning and official plan changes.
