Chatham-Kent Seeking Encampment Advisory Committee Members

The deadline to apply for Chatham-Kent's new Encampment Advisory Committee is fast approaching.

The municipality is looking for residents, business owners, and community advocates who want to improve communication around proposed encampment-related projects.

The six-person committee will include equal representation from the following groups: - Two people who are residents from neighbourhood around the Public Utilities Commission (PUC) property on Grand Ave. E. in Chatham, drawn from the Northside Neighbours Association and residents who have previously lived near a shelter or large encampment - Two business owners and/or operators, drawn from the Northside Neighbours Association - Two people from Community groups and persons with lived and living expertise

The committee was approved in September when a motion from Councillor Michael Bondy received unanimous support from Chatham-Kent Council.

The municipality says the group will help ensure transparent dialogue between the municipality and the community before any reports related to the encampment are submitted to council.

Its mandate includes weighing the impact of programs on nearby residential areas while balancing the needs of people experiencing homelessness.

The application deadline is 4:30 p.m. on Friday, November 25. Only selected applicants will be contacted. For more information and to fill out the application form online, CLICK HERE.

Forms can be submitted at any Chatham-Kent Municipal Centre or Municipal Information Desk, by email to ckclerk@chatham-kent.ca.
