Changes to electricity prices in Ontario are now in effect.
Winter time-of-use rates are in place from November 1 until the end of April.
During on-peak hours, 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., customers will now pay 20.3 cents per kilowatt hour, up from 15.8 cents per kilowatt hour last winter.
During off-peak hours, from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. weekdays, weekends and holidays, customers will pay 9.8 cents per kilowatt hour, up from 7.6 cents per kilowatt hour last year.
To help offset the increase in electricity prices, the provincial government's Ontario Electricity Rebate (OER) for residential, small business and farm customers also changed to 23.5 per cent, up from 13.5 per cent.
The Ontario Energy Board said for a typical residential customer who uses 700 kWh of electricity per month, the OER will drop bills by about $36 a month.
The OEB reminds customers who may be struggling to pay their bills, support programs are available, such as the Low-Income Energy Assistance Program.
Customers are also reminded that there is a ban on electricity and natural gas disconnections from November 15 to April 30.
