Pumpkin Fest is back this weekend for its sixth annual day of all things pumpkin.
The event is expected to attract hundreds of residents, as a bigger crowd comes out every year, according to organizer Allan Cameron.
“Last year, I think we had over 150 vehicles come out, so we figured we probably had at least 300 (people) out throughout the day,” said Cameron. “You always have those people that come back each year, but you always see some new faces every year, and every year it's progressively gotten bigger.”
The farm that is hosting the event, Cameron Pumpkins in Dresden, has picked a different charity for each fest, and this year it’s the Chatham-Kent Hospice.
There will be a pumpkin smashing set up, contests including best costume, guess the weight of the pumpkin, and guess the amount of pumpkins, as well as live music in the form of the Oktoberfest quartet.
Last year, the event raised $2,000, with the farm donating over $1,200.
“We're always pretty big on giving back to the community, it's big for us, especially with pumpkins, where it's just a seasonal thing, and it's cool to do something to kind of give back, and it's always something we look forward to doing,” said Cameron.
Pumpkin Fest starts at 11 a.m. on Sunday, and entry is $5 per vehicle.
