The measles outbreak in Ontario is finally over after almost a year and nearly 2,400 cases.
Public Health Ontario (PHO) declared the outbreak over, effective on Monday.
According to PHO, Chatham-Kent (CK) saw 179 total cases with the last rash reported on July 24.
The agency also noted that CK had the fourth-highest number of reported cases in the entire province.
The agency said the outbreak was concluded because 46 days had passed since the last rash was reported and no additional outbreak cases were reported since September 29.
PHO officials remind the public that measles continues to circulate in Canada and globally.
"Ongoing vigilance for measles case finding and public health follow-up will continue to occur," said PHO.
PHO said an exposure to a travel-related case in New Brunswick in October 2024 led to measles cases in Ontario, with Ontario’s first outbreak cases occurring the week of October 28, 2024.
