Staff at the Chatham Kent Health Alliance (CKHA) have helped further research on advancing organ donor safety.
A recent study, known as CONCLUDE, used a technique already widely used in Europe called Abdominal Normothermic Regional Perfusion (A-NRP). This restores blood flow to abdominal organs after death, improving the chances that the organs can be transplanted.
During the summer, staff at the CKHA helped a patient take part in the study.
“We faced some challenges securing transport for the patient... but [CKHA's] persistence and dedication to the cause is what made it possible. The team at CKHA went above and beyond," read a statement from the Trillium Gift of Life Network.
Overseeing the study were the London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC) and the University Health Network (UHN).
