Run the Runway back for second year

Chatham-Kent residents will have the chance to run at the airport this Friday, September 5.

The YMCA will host Jordan's Run the Runway, a 5K fundraising run, walk, roll, or pole.

"This is a fast, flat 5K run. Family-friendly, hosted right there at the Chatham-Kent Municipal airport. This is our second year there," said Christina Harley, VP of Development with the YMCA of Chatham-Kent.

The event is open to all ages and abilities, and registration opens on Friday at 5:30 p.m.

"The kids run is about a 1K, it's kind of a little out-and-back, it's fun, it has medals," said Harley. "Then the 5K is fully accessible, but also you can walk it. It's just really fun. Then afterwards we have some things to eat, and then we do a little silent auction."

All of the money raised will stay in Chatham-Kent to support access to the Y.

"It's a fundraising run for the YMCA to ensure that everyone in the community of Chatham has access to all YMCA programs and services, regardless of their ability to pay. Specifically, financial assistance for members in the community to access our programs," said Harley. "About 33 per cent of our participants in the Chatham-Kent community actually require financial assistance to access things like swimming lessons, our health and fitness facility, or some of our camps and programs."

The event celebrates the life and legacy of Jordan Strickland, whose passion for the Y and fostering community inspired the fundraiser. Other Run the Runway events are planned for London on September 19 and Sarnia on October 3.
