Customers of the Wheatley and Tilbury water distribution system may notice discoloured water coming from their taps.
The Municipality of Chatham-Kent said this will start Saturday, August 30 and is caused by naturally occurring colour in the Lake Erie water supply because of water temperature fluctuations and lake turnover.
Water in Wheatley and Tilbury is received by the water treatment plant in Wheatley, which started discolouration Friday, August 29.
The safety of the water is not affected by the colour issue and there has not been any testing results that indicate there is a health risk of drinking the water.
According to the municipality, the discolouration will last for a brief period and will clear naturally as the system replenishes with new water.
It said once the lake returns to normal, the system will be flushed.
The Chatham-Kent Health Unit will be kept informed until the situation resolves.
