Personal watercraft crash on Lake St. Clair claims a life, injures three

A 17-year-old female from Essex County has died and three more females have been injured after a personal watercraft crash on Lake St. Clair.

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) said the fatal collision involving a single personal watercraft happened on Lake St. Clair near Couture Beach in Lakeshore, just west of Lighthouse Cove, on Thursday at approximately 2 p.m.

According to the OPP, the 17-year-old was transported to hospital where she was pronounced deceased from her injuries.

A 16-year-old girl was transported to hospital and then airlifted to a trauma centre with life-threatening injuries, added police.

The OPP also reported that two more females, 15 and 17-years old, were transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Nearby residents helped rescue the girls from the lake, according to the OPP.

The OPP noted an investigation is underway.
