Family dispute leads to assault with a weapon charge against police

A 37-year-old Chatham-Kent man is facing assault, resisting arrest, and weapons possession charges after police were called for a family dispute.

Chatham-Kent police responded to a Dresden home just after 11:30 p.m. on Saturday.

After arriving, police made an attempt to arrest a man for mischief, however, he allegedly threatened an officer with a large object.

Officers eventually had to pull out Tasers to get the man to cooperate.

He was taken to police headquarters and held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Driver arrested following police chase

CK police have charged a Leamington man with multiple driving offences after a brief car chase over the weekend.

Police said officers attempted to pull over a speeding driver on Wheatley Road in Tilbury shortly after 8:30 p.m. on Sunday. When the driver didn't stop, a chase ensued, but it ended quickly to keep the public safe.

According to police, the vehicle and driver were identified through the use of CCTV footage.

A 24-year-old man was later arrested and charged with failing to stop for a red light, dangerous driving, and stunt driving. His vehicle was also impounded, and his licence has been suspended.

Traffic stop leads to drug charges

Chatham-Kent police seized cocaine from a vehicle following a traffic stop.

Police pulled over a vehicle on Grand Avenue West in Chatham at around 1 a.m. on Saturday when officers saw that one of the headlights wasn't working.

According to police, officers determined that the driver didn't have a licence when questioning him. When investigating further, police said they discovered drug paraphernalia and about 7.6 grams of cocaine.

A 28-year-old Chatham man was arrested and charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking.

Dover Centre man facing drug charge

CK police said that a routine traffic stop in Wallaceburg has resulted in a driver being arrested for being impaired by drugs.

Police pulled a 43-year-old driver over at King Street and Bridge Street just before 9:30 p.m. on Monday.

When interacting with the driver, police suspected that he was under the influence of drugs. The man then reportedly failed a sobriety test, leading to further testing at police headquarters.

Police also said that a small quantity of crystal methamphetamine was discovered in the vehicle.

The driver, who is from Dover Centre, was charged with drug possession.
