Man arrested in air conditioner theft

A Chatham man has been arrested after finding an unconventional way to beat the heat.

CK police said the 29-year-old was spotted allegedly stealing an air conditioner from a property on Sparks Drive just after 3 a.m. on Sunday.

A witness told police that they saw a suspect remove the air conditioner and haul it away with a bicycle trailer.

The man was found a short time later with the stolen property, police said.

He faces one count of theft and possession under $5,000 and is scheduled to appear in court in September.

20-year-old faces impaired driving charge

A Chatham-Kent man was charged with impaired driving after a vehicle complaint in Tilbury.

Police said officers pulled a vehicle over on Mill Street just after midnight on Friday following a complaint from a concerned citizen.

After a failed roadside test, officers arrested the 20-year-old driver and transported him to police headquarters for further testing. Those test results showed that the man was well over the legal limit, and he was charged with driving while intoxicated.

He was later released from police custody with an August 25 court date.

Chatham woman arrested for violating court orders

A 29-year-old Chatham woman is facing charges after she was found in the company of a man she wasn't supposed to see.

CK police said that in May the woman was barred from contacting a 26-year-old man, or from being within 50 feet of his home, work, or school unless written permission was given.

At about 3:30 a.m. on Sunday, police responded to a possible break-and-enter at a home in Chatham. Officers said that when they arrived, they found two people inside the home; the woman and the man she wasn't supposed to be in contact with.

The woman was arrested and charged with two counts of breach of recognizance. She was taken to police headquarters and later released with a future court date.
