Ridgetown cat returns home after being missing for over three years

A Ridgetown woman has reunited with her cat after more than three years apart.

Trudy Calvert's cat, Virginia, disappeared in June 2022. She had routinely gone outside with her, but one night she got out unnoticed and couldn't be found.

Last week, Calvert was getting ready for bed when she noticed that her two other cats were staring outside. When she went to see what they were looking at, she got the surprise of her life.

"(Virginia) was just sitting there on the deck," said Calvert.

She explained that Virginia walked right in and acted like she hadn't missed a single day. This included interacting with Calvert's dog, which lived with her before she disappeared, and lying down on Calvert's bed.

She's 100 per cent sure this is Virginia due to these interactions and because she has the same coloured ears and nose.

Calvert also explained it's more likely than not that she was taken care of during the three years she was gone.

"Someone had to feed her; she wasn't emaciated, and she was an indoor cat that survived," she added.

Now that Calvert has been reunited with Virginia, she's encouraging people with missing pets to never give up.
