Chatham home, Bothwell garage damaged in separate fires

No injuries are reported after a garage fire in Bothwell.

Chatham-Kent Fire and Rescue firefighters were called to a home on Elm Street at around 8:30 a.m. Wednesday morning.

When they arrived, they found heavy smoke coming from a detached garage.

The blaze was quickly put under control, preventing any other structures from being damaged.

The extent of the damage is around $5,000.

The cause has been deemed accidental, though CK Fire and Rescue did not clarify how to started.

Meanwhile, a second fire erupted a couple of hours later in Chatham.

This blaze happened in a two-storey home on Forest Street.

Firefighters found the fire in the home's basement, later determining it was caused by a faulty dryer.

One person was assessed on scene for smoke inhalation, but this was the extent of any injuries.

The fire is also believed to have caused around $5,000 in damage.
