Special air quality statement issued for Chatham-Kent

Smoke from wildfires in northern Ontario has made its way to the bottom of the province.

Environment Canada has issued a special air quality statement for much of the region, including Chatham-Kent, Elgin County, Middlesex County, and Windsor-Essex.

The weather agency suggests the smoke will persist throughout Monday and possibly into Tuesday.

People in the affected areas are being encouraged to limit their time outside as the smoke can cause breathing problems and irritate eyes, noses, and throats.
