Kids will be in the spotlight this weekend in Blenheim.
The second Blenheim Children's Festival will take place at Talbot Trail Place park on Saturday, July 5 from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m.
"It's a free, interactive day for children, young up to whatever age," said organizer Debbie Brush. "We have all kinds of things that include face painting, henna, there's going to be dancing by the Blenheim Dance Collective that the children join in on with the mascots. We've got the CK Play Rangers, we've got a sensory station, story reading area, bubble play, lots of vendors. It's going to be a great day and great weather too."
2024 was the first year for the festival, and Brush was pleasantly surprised by how successful it was.
"I had a lot of people come up to me and the organizations that were involved, and said this was just something fabulous that's so interactive for the children," said Brush.
This year, the organizers added some new activities and attractions, including appearances by some Disney characters, and a chance to get up close and personal with some animals.
"Little Ray's Reptile display, so they're only there for an hour, and it's going to be along Marlborough Street under the shade trees," said Brush. "That's from 10:30 to 11:30, so that's kind of like a nice little thing that we've added to it."
Brush added that the event is free thanks to support from the Blenheim Rotary Club, the Talbot Trail Place park committee, and the Ridge Landfill Community Trust.
