Chatham-Kent's Alysson Storey will continue to be the voice for the municipality on the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM).
Earlier this month, she was re-elected for her third term to the 2025-2026 Board of Directors. Storey will also become the vice-chair of the board's Ontario caucus.
"It's been an honour to serve both my community and my country as a Board member of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities," Storey said. "I have learned so much about the important relationship between federal and local governments and have done my best to bring back those lessons to our Council table. To be recognized by my FCM peers and elected Vice-Chair of the Ontario Caucus, the largest Provincial Caucus at FCM, raises the profile of Chatham-Kent even more, and allows me a greater leadership opportunity to make sure our local voices are heard at the federal level."
FCM is a strong advocate for communities across Canada, with a focus on municipal growth and connecting smaller local governments with federal lawmakers.
Mayor Darrin Canniff said he's confident that Storey will continue to be a strong voice for Chatham-Kent.
"Councillor Storey's appointment as Vice-Chair is an excellent step forward in Chatham-Kent’s renewed focus on advocacy," he said. "It gives Chatham-Kent a voice at a very important table when issues affecting all of us are brought up."
Storey has participated in a number of important discussions held by FCM. This included being part of a delegation to Washington, D.C., to discuss the role of local governments on an international level, especially when it comes to tariffs. She was also part of the FCM's rural report "The Future of Rural Canada," which contains recommendations on how to unlock the full potential of rural communities.
