The next and perhaps final chapter in the Wheatley explosion of 2021 will soon get underway.
On Wednesday afternoon, the Municipality of Chatham-Kent said new testing instruments will be installed around the monitoring well at the blast site in downtown Wheatley beginning next week.
The new equipment is to determine next steps towards the final closure of the monitoring well, said the municipality, adding the process will last for approximately six months.
"There will be Chatham-Kent Fire and Rescue Services staff on site daily to perform routine checks and there is no concern for public safety associated with the ongoing testing," municipal officials noted.
The municipality reminds members of the public to call 911 immediately if they detect or suspect gas in their home.
The blast was caused by Hydrogen Sulfide gas coming up from an old well.
