The number of new measles cases is decreasing across Chatham-Kent.
The latest Public Health Ontario (PHO) report released on Thursday showed only two cases of the measles in the municipality since May 20, 2025.
PHO reported a total of 167 measles cases since the outbreak started in October 2024, keeping Chatham-Kent Public Health fourth overall in total case count among public health units in Ontario, but second in rate of infection.
Ontario saw 93 new measles cases over the past week, bringing the total number of cases across the province to 1,888.
Southwestern Ontario is the epicentre of the measles outbreak with the highest number of cases.
The majority were in infants, children, and adolescents, noted PHO.
"The continued increase in the number of outbreak cases and geographic spread is predominantly due to ongoing exposures and transmission among individuals who have not been immunized," said PHO in its weekly report.
PHO reported 141 of outbreak cases have required hospitalization and of those hospitalized, 133 were not immunized, including 101 infants, children and adolescents.
Fortunately, there have been no deaths in Ontario due to the measles outbreak.
