A volunteer-led group in Chatham-Kent is gearing up for a pair of special events in the next couple of weeks.
FreeHelpCK, which has been holding its "Prom and Grad Dress Project" throughout the Spring is holding a celebration day on Saturday, May 31 where several youths will receive full make-up and hair-styling services to complement their chosen outfits before they get some professional photos taken.
"All the girls and guys who have signed up get to come in and they get their hair done, their eyelashes, their makeup and then they go over to the Retro Suites to get their photos done," said Gerry-Ann Hughson with FreeHelpCK. "It's a big day that we're really excited about."
Hughson said all of the youths who are taking part in the photo shoots have already been notified and booked in for specific time slots.
However, there are still more outfits available free of charge for anyone who may still need something to wear for an end-of-school-year event.
Prom dresses and suits will be available free of charge at the FreeHelpCK location inside the Downtown Chatham Centre from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. Hughson said they still have more than 1,000 dresses and over 400 suits to choose from along with several pairs of shoes and some jewellery.
After the "Cinderella Day," FreeHelpCK will also be hosting a Car Show event on Saturday, June 14 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at St. Paul's Congregational Church (450 Park Avenue West) in Chatham.
"If you have a car, come on out, we have over 40 vendors," said Hughson. "There will be a silent auction, a penny sale, food trucks."
Hughson said there is no need to register a car ahead of time.
The proceeds from the Car Show will go toward FreeHelpCK's Operation Backpack program, which provides backpacks filled with essential school supplies to local students so they have what they need for school.
