Chatham driver faces charges after vehicle hits man in front yard

Chatham-Kent police have charged a 40-year-old man with assault and dangerous driving after another man was hit with a vehicle.

According to police, the incident took place just before 2:30 p.m. on Sunday.

Investigators determined that the 61-year-old victim was sitting on an e-bike in the front yard of a Princess Street home in Chatham when he was hit by the vehicle.

Officers found the driver who was arrested and charged. He was later released with a court date of June 30.

Alleged fraudster arrested trying to buy vehicle

A Niagara woman has been arrested after she reportedly tried to use a stolen identity to buy a vehicle.

CK police said officers were called to a fraud-in-progress at about 1:34 p.m. on Saturday. Police responded to a Richmond Street address in Chatham after a fraud flag was triggered in a national database, which indicated suspected identity theft.

It was determined that a 26-year-old woman was attempting to buy a vehicle using another person's identity, which had previously been reported in a different fraud investigation.

The woman has been charged with identity fraud, fraud over $5,000, and false pretence.

She has been released from police custody with a future court date.

Duo arrested for theft, fund with multiple I.D.s, credit cards

Two men are facing some hefty charges after being reported for shoplifting.

CK police said that officers responded to a St. Clair Street business just before 10 a.m. last Friday for a report of theft.

When they arrived, police found and arrested two men; a 31-year-old from Brampton and a 32-year-old with no fixed address.

According to police, during the arrest the men were found in possession of more than 10 I.D.s, numerous credit and gift cards, and drugs.

The men face charges of theft under $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime, possession of an identity document, and possession of a scheduled substance.

The two are being held by the Chatham-Kent Police Service (CKPS) in connection with the charges, they are also wanted in other jurisdictions for similar offences across the province.

Doorbell damage leads to warrant arrest

It took less than a week for CK police to arrest a man accused of mischief.

Police said that on May 14, a Chatham resident submitted footage of a neighbour spitting and pouring liquid on their doorbell camera.

After reviewing the footage, police identified a 54-year-old Chatham man and went to his home to arrest him. The man refused to leave his home and he was issued with a warrant charging him with mischief under $5,000.

Over the noon hour on Monday, police found and arrested the man.

He has been released from police custody with a future court date.
